Data Backup and Business Continuity | IQ Technology Solutions ...

What would happen if you lost all of your business data? For many small to mid-size businesses the results would be disastrous and in some cases could lead to business failure.

Business owners lose sleep over the possibility of computer system failures, fire, or theft that could lead to data loss. Yet many of the same people don?t know if their data is safe. There have been significant advances in data protection, backup and disaster recovery solutions over the past few years, yet we still run into organizations that suffer data loss
simply because no one knew exactly what was being backed up and there was no plan for recovery from a disaster.

There are several key questions you should be asking when examining your data backup and recovery systems:

  • How long will my business be down if I lose critical data or if a server fails? You should know whether your current solutions offer failover protection using virtualization technology to get you back up and running quickly.
  • Where is my data stored? Your critical data should be stored in an offsite datacenter to eliminate the risk of data loss from events such as fire and theft. The datacenter should meet SSAE-16 Type II certification compliance.
  • Have my backups been tested lately? We often hear the horror stories from small to mid-size businesses who thought there data was protected, but were unable to successfully restore it.

With the proliferation of cloud services for many computing functions there are several options for protecting your organization from data loss and ensuring that your business can continue if you experience a catastrophic event. Most cloud providers include data backup and business continuity solutions as part of their data storage and application hosting services, but if you still have servers onsite or data spread across a fleet of
computers you should be making plans for the protection of the data stored there.

Here is a short list of the minimum requirements you should expect:

  • Recover your data quickly from any data loss or server outage.
  • Protect your data assets in the event of loss or corruption.
  • Restore your lost files, folders or even an entire server in minutes, not days or weeks.
  • Ensure business continuity every day.
  • Automatically preserve a copy of everything on a continuous basis.

To help organizations learn more about current data protection solutions we will be hosting a Lunch and Learn on August 30that our office. Topics covered will include the tools and processes that are critical for quick recovery from catastrophic events, data loss or corrupted files.
