Alvin Paige: My father's journey with Alzheimer's Disease | Diet ...

My father, artist Alvin Paige, was diagnosed with Alzheimer?s Disease in 2007. He passed away on October 8, 2010 due to complications of his illness. The population of people in their senior years is growing as we live longer, but what is quality of life when many senior citizens end up alone in skilled nursing facilities? Even with regulations, residents can end up mistreated. Who will advocate for these forgotten people? If Medicaid is cut what will happen to American senior citizens? If your loved one has dementia or Alzheimer?s your journey through skilled care and assisted living is particularly intense. What can you do? Be present. Ask questions. Demand answers. Keep records. Don?t settle. Donate to your local or national Alzheimer?s Associations. Advocate. A Special Thanks to Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst, MA a model of excellence in End of Life Care. CORRECTION: The video notes that Alvin Paige passed away on October 8, 2011. The actual date was October 8, 2010.
