W. Rowing. Women's Rowing Announces Hiring of Andy Foltz as Novice Coach

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State women's rowing head coach Emily Ford announced Thursday, the hiring of Andy Foltz as the team's new novice coach. Foltz comes to OSU from the University of Minnesota, where he served in the same capacity for two seasons.

While in Minneapolis Foltz had a total of three student-athletes selected for the United States Rowing's Freshman Camp. In 2012 his novice squads notched a total of five victories in addition to the novice 8+ winning their heat at the San Diego Crew Classic.

"We are looking forward to having Andy on board," Coach Ford said.? "It was evident through the hiring process that he shares similar values and philosophies as the rest of staff and student-athletes.? He will be a great addition to our coaching team, and a great mentor and resource for the student athletes."

Prior to his position at Minnesota, Foltz served as a volunteer coach and a graduate assistant with the University of Washington. As a volunteer with the Huskies, Foltz assisted with novice coaching where he had two undefeated seasons and a pair of Pac-10 Championships in the First novice Eight. ?Along with his coaching abilities, Foltz also assisted with recruiting and coaches' clinics during his time at UW.

From 2007-08 Foltz was also was the assistant junior girls coach with the Sammamish (Wash.) Rowing Association. During that time, he coached the Varsity Lightweight 8+, 4+ and 2x to National Championship qualifications as well as coaching multiple boats to silver medals at the US Rowing NW Regional Championships.

A native of Sumner, Wash., Foltz graduated from Western Washington in 2007 with an undergraduate degree in exercise and sport science with a sport psychology specialization.? He went on to earn a master's degree in intercollegiate athletic leadership from Washington in 2009.

When he's not on the docks Foltz enjoys cycling, running and training for his first Ironman, which will take place in 2013.
