Church of Scientology Arranged Love Interests for Tom Cruise

A new report in Vanity Fair alleges that the Church of Scientology actively screened potential mates for Tom Cruise in the months before he started dating Katie Holmes.

Every now and then, rumors surface about just how weird things are behind the closed doors of the Church of Scientology. Our most recent glimpse into that bizarre world comes courtesy of Vanity Fair, which has apparently gotten a former Scientology insider - and brief girlfriend of Tom Cruise - to open up about her experiences with the church and Cruise. Aspiring actress and General Hospital regular Nazanin Boniadi told the magazine that she was among several women who were interviewed extensively by Scientology officials in order to determine if they were a fit as a possible mate for Tom Cruise.

Boniadi claims that she was eventually selected to meet Cruise for dinner in New York, a meal that was also attended by several Scientology officials. Boniadi and Cruise would spend that evening together and, shortly thereafter, she would move in with the Top Gun star. The relationship didn't last long, however, and she was eventually moved out of his home and told by Scientology officials that the two were no longer a couple. She claims that she was told that Cruise needed someone with their own power in Hollywood, like his former wife Nicole Kidman.

Once she was removed from Cruise's life, Boniadi was moved to Scientology centers in California and Florida. Eventually, she claims she was punished by the church because she began telling her story to fellow church members. During her brief time with Cruise, Boniadi had been required to sign several confidentiality agreements that prevented her from sharing any details of her experience with Cruise or the vetting process through which she was selected as his potential mate.
