Rhapsody Releases App for iPad, iPad Mini

Rhapsody iPad app

Digital music service Rhapsody has finally released an app for the iPad and iPad mini, the company announced Monday.

The free app gives subscribers access to Rhapsody's collection of more than 16 million songs spanning an impressive 600 musical genres on their Apple tablet. Users can create and download playlists directly onto their iPad that can be enjoyed with or without an Internet connection. The app takes advantage of the iPad's large display, offering an attractive full-screen player.

"Our customers are going to be big fans of the latest tablet additions to Rhapsody's growing product suite," Paul Springer, senior vice president of worldwide product and design at Rhapsody, said in a statement. "Rhapsody has never looked or sounded better. We built this app from the ground up optimizing for speed, reliability and an effortless discovery experience for our members."

The ad-free app features member-created playlists and libraries as well as new releases every Tuesday. The app can play music through the iPad's internal speakers, headphones, or external speakers using Airplay and Bluetooth integration.

Rhapsody also recently released a new Android app, complete with a new feature called Replay that learns a user's listening patterns throughout the day to offer up song selections. In addition, the company earlier this month took on Shazam with the release of a new Android app called SongMatch, which lets users discover music with one click. Back in October, Rhapsody launched its music app for LG, Panasonic, and Samsung Smart TVs.

Meanwhile, streaming music rival Spotify released an iPad app back in May while Rdio did last year.

The new Rhapsody iPad app is available now in the App Store. Those without a Rhapsody subscription can get a free 30-day trial.
