ALBANY, N.Y. - The new College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering in Albany may soon break away from the University at Albany.
A meeting of SUNY's board of trustees will take place later today. SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher is expected to give a presentation to support a recommendation that both schools split.
Zimpher assembled a team that unanimously agreed that the NanoCollege needs to function independently in order to reach its potential.
The school has an opportunity to get up to $500 million in research funds in 2015.
There's no word on what UAlbany would get in return if it were to give up control of the NanoCollege.
